SPONGE IRON / DRI
Sponge Iron also called Direct reduced iron (DRI), is produced from the direct reduction of iron ore (in the form of lumps, pellets, or fines) to iron by a reducing gas or elemental carbon produced from natural gas or coal. Many ores are suitable for direct reduction. Direct reduction processes can be divided roughly into two categories: gas-based, and coal-based. In both cases, the objective of the process is to drive off the oxygen contained in various forms of iron ore (sized ore, concentrates, pellets, mill scale, furnace dust, etc.), in order to convert the ore to metallic iron, without melting it (below 1200 °C).
Coal Based Sponge Iron / DRI
Sponge iron produced using noncoking coal is called coal-based sponge iron/DRI. Producing the sponge iron through this process requires high-grade iron ore and noncoking coal.
Gas Based DRI / HBI
In this process route, iron oxides are converted to the DRI/HBI by using natural gas in a vertical shaft furnace. For steel producers, it is a preferred metallic, energy-efficient, and much more eco-friendly route. The product on this route is DRI lumps and in the briquetted form.

Aged about 49 years, he has over 20 years of experience in statutory audits, taxation & corporate laws, finance & accounts, project financing, and legal matters.

Aged about 52 years, a mechanical engineer has over 26 years of experience in operation & maintenance of DG-based power plants and also experience in operation and maintenance of SMS & rolling mill. Presently looking after the Engineering Department.
